The summer season is coming to an end, but it is still possible to organise short weekends to enjoy the last rays of sunshine. And you don’t have to travel to the other side of the world to discover beautiful places in autumn. Check out our selection of back-to-school getaways !
Burgundy
Less than 2 hours from Paris, it is one of the most famous wine regions in France and the world: Burgundy. At this time of year, the vines change colour and become more orange, which makes the place even more magical. The temperatures drop, which makes wine tasting even more enjoyable.
The Route des Grands Crus de Bourgogne is truly an ideal place to spend a weekend combining wine, food and conviviality.
Take the opportunity to discover Dijon, the capital of Burgundy! This city has beautiful architecture and medieval palaces.
An escapade in Alsace
Colmar is a real must-see during your stay in Alsace. Colmar has about 70,000 inhabitants and is the third largest city in Alsace after Strasbourg and Mulhouse.
The city has a real postcard feel with its colourful houses, canals and typical festivals.
La Petite Venise is a district to see! It was built on the course of the river Lauch. The houses and restaurant terraces have their feet in the water.
In autumn, the Alsace wine route is also worth a visit. There are many typical villages where you can taste traditional dishes.
Annecy
Head for Annecy to breathe the mountain air!
Annecy has the second largest lake in France, after the Bourget. Its water is clear and it is surrounded by mountainous massifs. A breathtaking panorama!
On site, you can also do water activities such as boating, paddling or water skiing!
Still in nature, at the end of the lake, discover the large nature reserve of 85 hectares, very famous in Haute-Savoie. This preserved area offers a magnificent setting; forest, waterways and meadows where several birds roam. A nice walk to recharge your batteries!
The French Riviera
On the south side, head for Eze, the medieval village perched on a hill. A few minutes from Nice, this small haven of peace is bordered by beautiful pebble beaches.
Eze is a labyrinth of small green streets where you can find many artists’ studios. To continue the walk, join the exotic garden, which offers an incredible view of the Mediterranean and the French Riviera in general.
Still on the Côte d’Azur, continue your stay in Menton near the Italian border. Here you will find the Cocteau Museum and the postcard-like Place Conception, with its extensive linen, plants and medieval houses.
An escapade in the Auvergne
The Auvergne is one of the places that offer beautiful walks and even more in autumn!
If you are a sports fan, you will find many activities in the Auvergne; hiking, horse riding, mountain biking or golf etc. You can also visit the regional nature park of the Auvergne volcanoes, with nature taking on the golden colours of autumn.
There are also beautiful villages, such as Le Mont-Dore, a spa town, with lots of charm. The thermal baths building is very beautiful with its volcanic stone façade, it was built more than 200 years ago, and is classified as a historical monument.
Another diversions during your weekend is the Vulcania theme park. A huge playground on the theme of volcanoes.
